How feeling misidentified can drive negative attitudes yet increase performance: The role of appraisals

Internal identity asymmetry is the uncomfortable experience of having one's mistaken—feeling being misidentified—by others at work. Through two longitudinal field studies working individuals, we investigate consequences internal on individuals' attitudes and work performance. Importantly, incorporate stress coping literature to examine how individual's cognitive appraisal (of negative affect resources), together moderate experience. Furthermore, our results also show that appraisals resources relationship between performance, such may motivate increased performance work, depending this appraisal.
